Using ICT to Develop Literacy
Published in 2006 by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Bangkok, Thailand This 2006 UNESCO publication discusses five areas in which ICT can be used in children's and adult literacy education: enhancing learning; raising access to literacy education; training of teachers; localizing content; and creating a literacy-conducive environment. It provides examples of projects in which ICT has been used effectively to improve literacy education, and sections on common issues and lessons learned.

Literacy.org is a gateway to electronic resources and tools for the national and international youth and adult literacy communities. It is jointly sponsored by the International Literacy Institute (ILI) and the National Center on Adult Literacy (NCAL) at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. The following ICT-related publications will be found there.

  • Monitoring and Evaluation of ICT in Education Projects: A Handbook for Developing Countries. This handbook was presented as part of an international roundtable at the United Nations World Summit on Information Societies (WSIS), held in November 2005 in Tunis, Tunisia.
  • Bridges to the Future Initiative
    • BFI South Africa Progress Report on multimedia learning software in the linguistic context of Limpopo
    • BFI Ghana Progress Report on integration of appropriate, high-quality, and culturally sensitive multimedia to improve teaching in Ghana
    • BFI India Project Update. The BFI project in India was expanded to 13 sites in the Hyderabad /RangaReddy region of Andhra Pradesh, with more than 250 participating youth.
