WHAT'S NEW AT THE INSTITUTE
. Institute and American Library Association to Host Webcast
Summit on Lifelong Literacy
The Institute views literacy as more than just an individual's ability to
read. Rather, literacy represents the sum of many skills-reading, writing,
speaking in English, computing, and solving problems at levels of
proficiency necessary to function on the job, in the family and in society.
Developing and honing these skills is a lifelong process and the nation's
libraries play a pivitol role in these activities through its resources and
expertise.
Join the Institute and the American Library Association (ALA) on Tues.,
April 7 at 1 p.m. EDT for a special Webcast Summit, Literacy for All:
Advocacy, Libraries, and Literacy, that will discuss the roles that
libraries play in supporting lifelong literacy and provide useful tools for
librarians.
Working with its longtime partner, ALA's Committee on Litearcy, the
Institute has assembled a distinguished and diverse panel of literacy
experts, librarians, and library practitioners, including Institute Acting
Director Daniel J. Miller and ALA President Jim Rettig. To learn more about
the Webcast and how you can register and participate, please visit the
Institute's Website http://www.nifl.gov <http://www.nifl.gov/> and click on
