It was heartening, too, at the Centre for Literacy's ESL/Literacy
Institute, this past June, to hear more about what we might (or might
not) see as something of a revival of all of this - work from the US and
Canada, but also from the UK's National Research and Development Centre
for Adult Literacy and Numeracy - http://www.nrdc.org.uk/index.asp - a
LOT of stuff - including many downloadable documents  on ESOL, literacy,
workplace stuff and other related pieces.

You're probably also aware of a number of resources from Canada, New
Zealand and elsewhere - some of which are gathered here:
