Description of the ARCS Comparison Profile 1
- ARCS Comparison Profile 1 is part of the GED Group. The GED Group is made up of three profiles (1 - 3) whose members
scored between Grade Equivalent (GE)
9-12 on the DAR Silent Reading Comprehension subtest.
- Profile 1 learners are the most capable in our sample.
Just as each component has its own average score based on its particular range of learners' scores, each component also has its own range of lowest scores. The scores given in the "Start of Lowest Range" column mark the BEGINNING of the lowest range for each component. Learners who score below this GE are those performing in the lowest 15% of the group on that component.

Please keep in mind "... that adults and college students [have] an average Maximum Oral Reading Rate (reading aloud [accurately] as fast as possible) of about 200 - 250 WPM" (Harris & Sipay, p. 635).
As with other components, there is a lowest range of scores. For Profile 1, 15% of learners read at rates below 116 wpm.
